The Delta GEMS of Burgaw Middle School traveled to North Carolina Central University on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 to learn about the admissions process, and scholarship opportunities. In addition, they attended breakout sessions for students to learn about student life, educational programs and available college areas of study. The students toured the campus, and attended a football game. Delta GEMS is a girl empowerment group that is sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The goal is to instill the need to excel academically. The program
provides tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success. There is a focus on goal setting and planning for the future in high school and beyond. Finally, the idea is to create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service-learning and community service opportunities.
