BURGAW, NC - Pender County Schools has been awarded a Landfall Education Grant to support its McKinney Vento students.
The project awarded has four specific aims: college preparedness, emotional intelligence, societal readiness, and extracurricular exploration. McKinney-Vento students will be invited to participate in the project based on their age and need for applicable programs.
Social emotional learning will be encouraged through art lessons and movement classes to encourage self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, etc. Societal readiness skills will be taught through cooking classes, home garden kits, and self care/discovery kits to prepare students for life with skills that build and foster a sense of self. High school students entering college will be prepared for life on campus and young adulthood in college preparedness initiatives. Extracurricular exploration will aid students in present-moment awareness, relationship building, and self-actualization through enjoying fun activities in summer programs outside of regular educational settings.
