Rocky Point, NC – The energy was electric as young literary scholars from across the district gathered at Rocky Point Elementary for the highly anticipated Elementary Battle of the Books competition. Hosted by Pender County Schools and organized in accordance with the North Carolina School Library Media Association, this event showcased students’ dedication to reading and their passion for literature.
After an intense day of competition, South Topsail Elementary emerged as this year’s champion, securing the top spot in a fiercely contested battle. Cape Fear Elementary followed closely behind, finishing in second place after a dramatic sudden-death tie-breaker, with both teams locked at 117 points at the end of regulation play. Surf City Elementary claimed third place with an impressive 111 points, rounding out an extraordinary display of knowledge, teamwork, and perseverance.
The event was made possible through the gracious hospitality of Rocky Point Elementary, where Principal April Perkins and her dedicated team provided a welcoming and well-organized venue. Their efforts ensured a smooth and engaging experience for students, coaches, and spectators alike.
A special thanks goes out to our moderators, Monet Alvin (Heide Trask High Media Coordinator) and Karei Swift (Follett Content Senior Sales Consultant), whose precision and expertise kept the competition running seamlessly. Their ability to maintain focus and fairness through every round, especially during the tense tie-breaker, was invaluable.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the schools, coaches, parents, and students who devoted their time and energy to preparing for this event. Their unwavering commitment to literacy and teamwork continues to inspire and enrich the educational experience of our students.
As we celebrate the achievements of all participants, we look forward to another year of literary exploration and spirited competition in Pender County Schools’ Elementary Battle of the Books. Congratulations to all teams for their outstanding performances, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a success!
