Pender County Schools is providing an important update regarding a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a former vendor that previously provided our Student Information System (SIS).
Initially, PowerSchool informed us that Pender County Schools was not affected by this incident. However, the company has since determined that some individuals’ (staff and student) information was involved and has begun notifying those impacted.
PowerSchool has confirmed that all affected data has been contained and destroyed. Additionally, they have assured us that there were no actions Pender County Schools or the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) could have taken to prevent this cybersecurity incident.
To support those affected, PowerSchool has partnered with Experian, a trusted credit reporting agency, to offer complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services. These services are available to current and former students and educators whose information was accessed, regardless of whether an individual’s Social Security Number was involved.
Experian (on behalf of PowerSchool) will send direct email notifications to impacted individuals (or their parent/guardian, if applicable) for whom PowerSchool has sufficient contact information. Additionally, PowerSchool has established a dedicated, toll-free call center to assist with any questions regarding these services.
All details regarding activation and access to these services will be included in the email from Experian. Whether or not you receive an email, you can also visit PowerSchool’s website for more information: PowerSchool Data Breach Notice
While Pender County Schools has transitioned to Infinite Campus as our SIS provider this year, we understand that this situation may still impact members of our community. Protecting our students and staff remains our top priority, and we appreciate your support and understanding.
For any additional questions, please contact PowerSchool directly or visit their website for further information.
