In recognition of School Board Appreciation Month, we are honored to spotlight Jennifer Hansen, the newest member of the Pender County Board of Education. Appointed to represent District 1, Ms. Hansen was officially sworn in during the January 2025 board meeting.
Ms. Hansen’s connection to Pender County Schools is deeply rooted in years of service and leadership. Her dedication includes serving as PTA President for Penderlea School from 2010 to 2017 and for Pender High School from 2017 to the present. In addition, she has actively contributed to district initiatives as a member of the Pender County School Calendar Committee and the Superintendent Parent Advisory Committee during the 2023-2024 school year. Since 2022, she has also supported schools as a substitute teacher.
Beyond education, Ms. Hansen’s involvement extends to civic service, where she has held leadership roles on the Burgaw Planning Board, the Board of Adjustments, the Tree Board, and the Area Tourism Development Authority, often serving as chair. Her commitment to the community also includes work with the Pender County 4-H program, Burgaw Baptist Church, and the Pender County Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation.
A native of Scotland County, Ms. Hansen has lived in Pender County for many years with her husband of 28 years, Dr. Jeff Hansen. Together, they have two children who are proud graduates of Pender County Schools.
As we welcome Ms. Hansen to the Board, we recognize the depth of her dedication to education and civic engagement.
