ROCKY POINT, NC – Pender County Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department hosted its annual Career Fair this week at Heide Trask High School, providing eighth grade students from across the district with a chance to explore a wide range of career and extracurricular opportunities.
Under the leadership of CTE Director Dominique Bates, the event welcomed 8th graders from all middle schools in the district, offering them an early glimpse into 91 diverse career fields, including law enforcement, veterinary medicine, cosmetology, land surveying, masonry, and more. Additionally, student organizations like DECA Club and HOSA were on hand to highlight the value of extracurricular involvement in building leadership and career skills.
“Our goal is to inspire students to dream big by introducing them to the many possibilities that await them,” said Bates. “By connecting students with professionals and organizations, we’re giving them the tools to start planning their futures.”
To ensure accessibility for all students, the Pender County Schools Transportation Department played a vital role, coordinating bus routes under the leadership of Transportation Director Britton Overton.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Breedlove emphasized the importance of providing these opportunities early in students’ academic journeys. “This Career Fair underscores our district’s commitment to preparing students for bright futures,” said Dr. Breedlove. “By engaging middle school students, we’re helping them see the pathways available and igniting their passions for learning and leadership.”
The Career Fair, a cornerstone of Pender County Schools’ dedication to preparing students for life beyond high school, continues to inspire and empower students to explore their interests and chart their paths toward a fulfilling future.
