BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC - Imagine a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a bit of friendly competition. That's exactly what school bus drivers from Pender, Brunswick, and New Hanover counties experienced at the recent Local Bus Roadeo held in Brunswick County.
For these drivers, it was more than just another day on the job. It was a chance to demonstrate their expertise behind the wheel as they navigated through a series of challenging maneuvers set up by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). From precision turns to obstacle courses, each driver showcased their skills and agility, aiming for the highest scores possible.
But the thrill didn't end there. The top three drivers from each county earned the opportunity to advance to the district-level competition scheduled in Fayetteville at the end of April.
Pender County Schools (PCS) emerged as a standout, with drivers claiming both first and third place across all participating counties. Teresa Coston, representing South Topsail Elementary, clinched the top spot. Not only did she secure first place within PCS, but she also topped the charts among all counties.
Following closely behind was Surf City Elementary/Middle, Topsail High driver Sean Walker who secured second place for PCS and third place overall. And let's not forget Austin Kelly who drives for Cape Fear Elementary/Middle, Heide Trask - his impressive performance earned him third place for PCS.
Here's to our PCS drivers - may they continue to shine as they embark on the next leg of their journey!
