CAMP LEJEUNE, NORTH CAROLINA - Cadets from the Topsail High School CGJROTC program recently set out on an educational journey to the USCG Special Missions Training Center (SMTC) to gain insights into the rigorous training regimen of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Deployable Specialized Forces.
The SMTC, renowned as the premier training facility for the Coast Guard's elite units, provided an immersive experience for the cadets. The primary focus was on preparing boat crews for the critical Ports and Waterways Coastal Security mission.
During the field trip, cadets explored various facets of maritime security, engaging in hands-on activities ranging from the Firearms Training Simulator to mastering Boat Tactics. The cadets also received essential training in First Aid, crucial for emergencies encountered during Coast Guard operations.
A highlight of the trip was the cadets' participation in a Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) feast, offering a taste of the sustenance relied upon by Coast Guard personnel during missions.
"This field trip has been an invaluable opportunity for our cadets to witness firsthand the dedication and skill required of Coast Guard personnel," said CGJROTC instructor Joseph Solomon, Captain USCG (Ret.). "Their experiences at the SMTC will undoubtedly inspire and inform their future endeavors."
The immersive experience at the USCG SMTC underscores the commitment of the CGJROTC program to providing practical, real-world insights into military operations, preparing cadets for future leadership roles in service to their country.
