GREENSBORO, NC - Rocky Point Elementary's Rebecca Barras has been honored with "Educator of Excellence" award by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI). The award was presented as part of the 2nd Annual Conference of the Exceptional Children Division in Greensboro, NC.

Ms. Barras has demonstrated passion and devotion to the students with disabilities in her care. Her efforts align perfectly with the mission of the Exceptional Children Division of NC DPI, which is committed to increasing the performance of students with disabilities, ultimately enhancing their ability to graduate and achieve productive post-secondary outcomes.

Rebecca's commitment goes beyond the classroom; it extends to collaborating with parents/families, teachers, and administrators. This collaborative effort creates a supportive environment where every student is given the best opportunities to thrive each day and into the future.

The Conference of the Exceptional Children Division is an opportunity for thousands of special education teachers, administrators, related service providers, community partners, and families of students with disabilities to come together to learn, network, and celebrate exemplary practice models, outstanding individuals like Rebecca Barras, and valuable content. This year's theme, "Opportunities to Learn, Opportunities to Succeed," embodies the core values of the Exceptional Children Division's strategic plan. It highlights the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their abilities, have the chance to reach their full potential.
