HAMPSTEAD, NC - Topsail High School Science Teacher Matthew Yaeger has been named a 2023-24 Kenan Fellows recipient.
"As a teacher I'm dedicated to promoting STEM and career readiness skills in the classroom, which is why I'm honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers and local businesses through the Kenan Fellows. " Mr. Yaeger said.
As part of the fellowship, Mr. Yaeger will spend three weeks with leaders in STEM fields and will receive a $5,000 stipend while participating in 80 hours of professional development focusing on project-based learning, enhancing the relationship between the school and community as well as peer coaching among other things.
"This specific fellowship is funded through STEPS4GROWTH, a $23.7 million dollar grant awarded to NC A&T, and our ultimate goal is to make sure we are sharing opportunities for students for students to be aware of all the skills and career paths that are available to them in the Clean Energy space in NC." said Yaeger.
The Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership (KFP) is a K-12 education initiative of the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science at N.C. State University.
