BURGAW, NC – Pender County Schools, through a partnership with Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), will expand electrical apprenticeship programs at Pender and Heide Trask High Schools.
CFCC received $900,000 in Golden LEAF funding to make the expansion possible.
“What a great opportunity for our students at Pender and Heide Trask High schools.” Said Pender County Schools Career Technical Education Director Dominique Bates. “We have already identified lab space for CFCC instructors to come over and teach programs to our students beginning next year.”
According to information provided by Cape Fear Community College, CFCC works in partnership with Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association (CFECA), a consortium of over 30 local electrical contractors, to provide internships to these students to gain real-world experience before graduation.
The projected annual job openings for electricians in North Carolina is 2,740. The average earnings of an entry-level electrician are $47,310 (O Net Online).
