Pender County Schools (PCS) adheres to Section 504 of the American Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ensuring that services, programs, and activities are accessible to qualified individuals. This legislation, designed to protect civil rights, does not fall under special education statutes. Specifically, the statute states:

"No otherwise qualified individual with a disability... shall, solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Regular education staff and building administration are responsible for implementing practices and procedures to fulfill the requirements of this law. It's essential to note that schools do not receive additional funding for Section 504 procedures and accommodations.
